Chemical Registration with Labii ELN & LIMS

Whether it is pharmaceutical, food safety, or biochemical laboratory; identifying and listing bioactive substances and drugs is essential to keep the workflow history and chemical information recorded. The chemical registration system is an intern digital database that enables laboratories to manage, to organize, and to keep track of the chemical compounds they are using; all by storing their data in one place.

With classic chemical inventories and registers performed within a notebook or even with excel sheets, you can only stock the list of chemicals used in the laboratory and their relative information, without updating their availability status among the experiments progress.   1. First, to create a chemical table, you add a new table in the settings menu by clicking on the plus button and choosing the chemical option and submit.

  2. Once the chemical table is created, you can start registering chemicals by clicking the plus button in the chemical table to add a new chemical. 

  3. Next, you enter the name of the chemical and select the type of project you want to store the chemical in, the name used should be the same for similar items in different batches.

  4. At this point, you can set a template as a model so that all the chemicals will have the same column data to fill in. 

  5. Once you submit, the new chemical is added to the chemical table. 

  6. To add chemical details you need to press the edit icon of the molecular formula and click generate then submit; the molecular formula, molecular structure, molecular weight, and SMILES will be automatically generated from an online database.

  7. To add the SMILES structure, you need to copy and paste the SMILES formula in the SMILES structure field and click submit; the SMILES structure will be displayed.

  8. In the description box; you can add information about handling requirements, safety measurements, and storage conditions of the chemical.

  9. Other columns can also be created; such as location, volume or amount of the chemical, expiration date…etc. to ensure the traceability of the chemicals used.

  10. At the end of the registration, you choose “is_template” or “is archived” to set the availability status of the chemical.  

Besides the ability to filter the search of a chemical-based on different parameters such as molecular formula, molecular weight, location…etc. Labii's chemical registration feature also enables you to examine and control the usage history of chemicals.
